2 Steps You Should Take To Check The Condition Of Your Gutters And Roof

Construction & Contractors Blog

While it may occur to you to clean your home, your roof and gutters may be a different story. Keeping your roof in good condition is just as important, though, because a healthy roof with good gutters can prevent a lot of problems. Here are 2 steps that you can take so that your gutters and roof stay nice and clean.

Roof Damage Control

First, consider doing some damage control to your roof at least once or twice a year. After big storms, whether they are snow storms or rain storms, you need to check out the condition of your roof and gutters.

When you go up on your room, look first at the shingles or roofing materials. If the roofing materials are lifted up, gone, or have bare spots, then you need to have this fixed immediately.

Also, look at the material under the shingles that provides an extra barrier against moisture. If this material is splitting or is lifting up, then it will not do its job properly. In this case, you need to call a professional, because fixing the underlayment can be a difficult task.

Gutter Cleaning

Second, clean your gutters at least twice a year so that the gutters are fully functional. When you clean them out, you need to remove all objects that are clogging them. Do not just spray them with water, because this can make the clog worse. Instead, wear gloves to protect your hands from insects and sharp objects, and then pull everything out of the gutters. You can also get long gutter cleaning poles that will reach far inside so that you do not have to remove parts of the gutter.

While you are cleaning, also check for damage all along the gutters. Damage may come in the form of dents, breaks, or rust. If you have any of these problems, then the gutters will need to be fixed or replaced. If you have seamless gutters that are broken, then they will not stay seamless unless you replace the entire system. If there are just some dents, then hire a professional who can pop the dents out, and they should work just as well as new gutters.  If your gutters are rusted, make sure that you get them replaced because rust is not healthy if it runs into your yard or garden.

By doing these 2 things, you can prevent serious roof and gutter damage that can lead to house flooding, leaks, and rusting water running into your yard. Contact a company like K&R Roofing and Gutters for more help.
